PM Modi- India and Mauritius are not just partners but a family

One of the pivotal announcements was cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in renewable energy. MEA India+2News on AIR+2 For a company like SolarfiX, this high-level push offers a unique opportunity — and we are excited to share how we are preparing to be a part of this transformation in Mauritius.

Following bilateral discussions with his counterpart from Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Mr. Modi said that a stable, prosperous, free, open and secure Indian Ocean was a joint priority of both countries.

“Centuries ago, our culture and traditions travelled from India to Mauritius, and became a part of everyday life there. Just like the eternal flow of Maa Ganga in Kashi, the continuous stream of Indian culture has enriched Mauritius. And today, when we are welcoming friends from Mauritius in Kashi, it is not just a formality but a spiritual union. That is why I proudly say that India and Mauritius are not just partners but a family,” said Mr. Modi.

Key Highlights from the India–Mauritius Talks

1. Deepening “Strategic + Enhanced” Partnership

Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to Mauritius not just as a partner, but as a “family,” citing civilizational bonds, shared heritage, and synergistic interests. The relationship has been elevated to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership, building on foundations such as:

  • Shared maritime and security cooperation

  • People-to-people exchanges

  • Development and capacity-building collaboration

2. Energy & Renewable Cooperation

One of the major outcomes of the meetings was a commitment to boosting power sector collaboration. A flagship initiative is the joint development of a 17.5 MW floating solar power plant in Mauritius — a project that aligns well with the island-nation’s push toward clean energy solutions.

Other energy-related support includes grants, lines of credit, and technical cooperation to strengthen Mauritius’s power grid and energy security.

3. Infrastructure, Port, and Maritime Interests

India also pledged a Special Economic Package to assist Mauritius in developing its key infrastructure: the Port of Port Louis, air traffic control, road and motorway projects, and surveillance capabilities in its maritime zones. MEA India With the expansion of Mauritius’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) following the Chagos agreement, maritime security and monitoring become crucial.

4. Science, Education & Technology Exchanges

Multiple MoUs were signed across domains:

  • Science & Technology collaboration

  • Oceanography cooperation

  • Administrative training & capacity building

  • Satellite tracking, telemetry, and space applications

5. Local Currency Trade

A noteworthy announcement was the intention to facilitate bilateral trade in local currencies, reducing dependency on external currencies and enhancing trade volumes.
